Welcome to Crypto for Mortals, Lets get started!
Making crypto accessible to all as I, a mere mortal, attempt to understand it and I share my learning experience across the vast crypto universe. No financial advice here, only opinions
Over the last few months I have been going down the proverbial crypto and blockchain rabbit hole looking for the hottest new coin, the most promising long term investments and the trends that are likely to pay off in the future. It is not the first time I have tried to get into crypto. In 2010 and then in 2013 I briefly looked into, purchased, and shortly sold some bitcoin (🧻🙌). I never took the time to properly understand its value proposition and the underlying mechanisms that drive blockchain technologies. As a result, I couldn’t formulate a coherent investment thesis nor appreciate the transformative nature of the technologies, and the impact it could have for me and the world at large.
In short, I just couldn’t get excited
This time around it will be different. The crypto world is much larger and more interesting now. Bitcoin is a mainstream store of value with institutional investors holding large amounts of it and validating its existence. There are a vast set of new currencies and tokens, with new applications of blockchain technology allowing for trade, peer to peer loans, art sales, collectibles, wild financial derivatives and much more.
There is a vibrant community of experts in the space, the amount of concepts to learn is overwhelming and there is new stuff launching every day. I have found myself hopping from one crypto area to another almost weekly. In February I was all about the promise of Cardano and got into coin staking. In early March I got really excited about all things NFT (crypto punks, Beeple, Euler Beats, trading cards, Oh my!), then the Chia Blockchain launched and I wanted to catch that train so I built a farming rig. This week I got interested DeFi and algorithmic yield farming. There is just so much!
How can a mere mortal with a day job, a wife and two kids ever learn enough to make sound investment decisions, keep up with the most interesting trends and get excited? I NEED SOME PROCESS AND STRUCTURE!
If you are crypto-curious like me, eager to learn more but intimidated by the firehose of technical information and the fast moving space, I invite you come along on this learning journey. With this blog I hope to make many of these complex concepts approachable to the average investor/user as I learn them myself.
To get started, I set the following set of personal goals for the blog:
Deepen my understanding of the crypto space by documenting and structuring what I learn.
Share with my small community of friends what I learn and engage in discussion. Maybe, eventually, the community will grow and this blog ill be a helpful resource to them!
Document investment thesis and decisions. Will be fun to look back on them.
Get better at writing by doing it often.
Feed and renew my crypto excitement by taking the time to properly understand new topics and decide where I should go deeper next.
As a reader, what would you like to get out of this blog? Leave a comment!
The style of the blog will be casual, oriented towards quick documentation of new concepts I learn and sharing updates on what I am doing in the space. I hope to write 1-3 posts per week with more of a personal journal style than a deep informational resource. Don’t expect Stratechery level of polish and insight!
To give you a sense of what to expect from the blog, I am looking to structure my posts across four categories:
Cryptocurrencies — developments in the underlying technologies, potential investment thesis, new projects that seem to hold promise, finding ways to earn cryptocurrency.
Decentralized Finance (DeFi) — how crypto is bringing liquidity to the developing world, how the wild world of DeFi protocols and exchanges work, yield farming and the promise of free money.
Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) — what drives value in NFTs, new business models emerging from NFTs, how gaming will adopt NFTs
Fun stuff — The crypto world is full of memes and whacky things being built all the time (Unisocks anyone?)
If you consider yourself a crypto mortal and are looking to learn with me, I encourage you to come along.
